10. Back to the Future II is Now About the Past

Back to the Future II, released in 1989, follows Marty McFly and Doc Brown as they take their DeLorean to travel into the distant future and see hoverboards, holograms, and power lace shoes. This futuristic setting, with it’s ridiculous clothing and plethora of robots, was set in the year 2015. And while technology in 2018 has undoubtedly progressed in many other ways, it’s sad to think that “the future” is not at all what we thought it would be.

9. The Rugrats are in Their 30’s

The Rugrats premiered in 1991 on Nickelodeon and quickly became a fan favorite. If the Rugrats were real kids, Tommy, Phil, and Lil would now be 30 years old! This also would make Chuckie 32 years old. If this doesn’t make you feel old, nothing will.

8. Nintendo 64 can be Found in Museums

Nintendo 64, released in 1996, was once the hottest new game console. 22 years later, you can find this relic in a traveling museum exhibit called “The Art of Video Games”. The exhibit has been to some of the most popular museums in the country – most notably the Smithsonian American Art museum.

7. Friends has Been Off the Air Longer than It was on the Air

Friends aired in 1994 and lasted 10 years, eventually ending in 2004. Do the math, and you’ll realize that it has now been off the air far longer than the show even ran in the first place. To put this even more into perspective, Ross and Rachel’s baby Ella would now be turning 16 and would soon have a driver’s license. Friends now appears on the Oldies block on Nick at Nite. Where has the time gone?

6. Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It was Released 20 Years Ago

Will Smith released Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It on his 1997 album Big Willie Style. It spent 3 solid weeks at the top of the Billboard Top 100, and eventually won a Grammy. Twenty years later, this song still strikes a chord of nostalgia for 90’s kids.

5. Zack and Kelly have been Married Nearly 24 Years

Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski, America’s favorite couple from Saved By The Bell, finally married each other in Las Vegas on a 1994 episode, which concluded the series. If they were a real couple, this would make them approaching their 24th wedding anniversary! They would probably even have adult children, possibly even grandchildren.

4. Adults Don’t Know a World Without Google

There are adults walking this planet who have never existed in a world without Google, which debuted 20 years ago. Put that on the same list as cell phones, internet, and email. Google is now listed as the most visited website in the world, and was the most valuable brand in 2017.

3. Janet Jackson’s Nip Slip was 14 Years Ago

During the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXVIII, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson were involved in a wardrobe malfunction later referred to as “Nipplegate”. This incident was a massive controversy and led to fines and regulation changes. Many networks still have a delay on their live events to prevent airing moments like these.

In 1990, Home Alone became an instant classic. It starred Macaulay Culkin as 8 year old Kevin McCallister who was left to his own devices during the Christmas season to defend his home against the Wet Bandits. Kevin would now be 26, likely with his own home to defend. Maybe he keeps on with the tradition and also frequently abandons his children during the holidays!

It won 11 Academy Awards and grossed 1.84 billion dollars – making it the first movie to make a billion dollars and the highest grossing film of all time until it was dethroned in 2010. Leonardo DiCaprio, who played 20 year old Jack Dawson, is now 43 years old.

These celebrities, movies, shows and songs undoubtedly remind you of a simpler time in your life. It is shocking to realize just how much time has passed. The hottest new releases have somehow become oldies and classics. They will, however, always hold the most special part of our hearts.
