So how do we know which countries are more peaceful than each other? We look to the Global Peace Index from Wikipedia and analyze the results. We’ve taken this analysis and created a countdown of the top 10 most peaceful countries in the world.
So here we go. As a point of reference, the lower the index, the more peaceful the country is said to be.
10. Czech Republic – 1.341
The Czech Republic is a landlocked country located in Central Europe which has over 1.5 million residents. The country was previously part of the Czechoslovakia state before its independence in November 1989 . This was achieved through the advent of the Velvet Revolution separating the two countries into Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Australia has a population of around 25 million is the ninth place most peaceful country in the world.
We all know that Australia is currently one of the most wealthiest and peaceful countries and also boasts high rankings in quality of life, health, education and so on. It is also a hub for international workers and students who prefer Australia due to the inviting environment of the country. They have a per capita income of around $47K which is attractive to many workers.

Canada is the 7th most peaceful country in the world according to the global peace index. So those looking to visit the United states should also consider their neighbors as Canada trumps the US by a mile who currently sits in 94th position.
With around 36 million residents and a $45K per capita income, Canada should be a part of your visit activities.
Canada has some of the most peaceful and friendly citizens which are welcoming and open-minded. This makes Canada one of the most livable countries in the world.
6. Finland – 1.2777
Finland is a country which lacks a combative nature and hence is one of the most peaceful and livable countries in the world. Finland is ranked as 6th on the Global Peace Index.
With around 5.5 million residents and a $41K per capita income, Finland is one of the most peaceful countries. Finland is also scarcely populated due to its geographical features.
They have recently only mobilized their combat forces for UN peace missions.
5. Switzerland – 1.275
Switzerland is ranked as the 5th most peaceful country.
This beautiful landlocked country has a population of around 8 million people and a per capital income of around $58K. Switzerland is reputed to be consistently safe and peaceful. Switzerland also has a very low crime rate as well as an excellent education and health system. An interesting fact is that the country is considered neutral among most conflicts. The country is much to small to defend itself from its very large neighbors and thus takes that position. Switzerland is certainly a highly livable country.
4. New Zealand – 1.221
New Zealand is ranked as the 4th most peaceful country in the world.
It is a nation with an estimated population of 4.5 million and has a per capita income of $35K.
New Zealand is also an ideal destination for travel and tourists because of the relatively low homicide and violence-free demonstrations. New Zealand prioritizes human rights and is considered politically stable which makes it a highly livable country.

For the past five years, Iceland has been rated as the most peaceful country in the world. With a population of only 330K and a per capita income of $44K, Iceland is is perfectly situated to be one of the most stable and peaceful countries in the world. Iceland does not have standing army forces, nor do they need them.
Iceland also has a market economy with relatively low taxes. The country provides universal health care and tertiary education to its citizens. Iceland also ranks highly in economic, political and social stability and equality.
All these factors combine to make Iceland the most peaceful country and probably the most livable one as well.
