10. There Is No Secret Menu
The popular Unicorn Frappuccino and the famously delicious zombie-inspired beverages are not a secret. There is no secret recipe book hidden around the back! In fact, they were advertised at one point. Usually, customers are the ones coming up with unique creations and posting about them.
Starbucks employees may get annoyed when customers request a drink they have never heard of and expect them to pull it from the secret menu. So, if you feel adventurous and want to order off-menu, have your ingredients ready! Starbucks employees will be happy to customize a drink for you.
9. Treats for Dogs!
Take your dog with you to get them a “puppuccino.” They will prepare a small serving of whipped cream for your dog, and it will make the Starbucks employees’ day seeing your pup enjoy the sweet treat. Next time you find yourself at Starbucks with your dog, don’t forget to ask for the puppuccino; your dog will thank you.
8. A Birthday Gift for You
If nobody remembers your birthday, Starbucks is ready to dish out gifts on your special day. Just ensure that you are a cardholder and signed up for their mobile app, then you can enjoy a free drink or food item on your birthday. Not just once, but every year! And you don’t have to make any purchases to enjoy that gift.
7. No Standard Discount for Law Enforcement
Uniformed military members, the fire brigade and the police force, will often get a discount or get their beverage on the house. This is only at certain stores, however. It’s not an across the board company policy. Many customers and baristas will go out of their way to buy the nation’s protectors drinks. Gratitude is always a good thing!
6. Starbucks Is a Career for Many Baristas
Many people’s perception is that working in the service industry is a stepping stone to something better. And for some people, it is. But many Starbucks employees are already on their career path and are earning degrees to move up higher in the company. The company is always eager to hire from within, so they establish a partnership with Arizona State University to certify their staff.
5. Learn the Lingo
Starbucks basically has its own language, and if you are not familiar with it, you may have a hard time ordering. It also makes it hard for the barista if you don’t know how to order at Starbucks. Rather than small, medium and large sizes, they have short, tall, grande, venti and trenta. There are also “skinny” drinks that have fewer calories and sugar than regular drinks.
As for the temperatures, if you ask for a “kid’s drink,” the barista will prepare the drink to 130 degrees Fahrenheit, which is less hot than normal. Asking for your drink “extra hot” will get you a drink that is 180 degrees Fahrenheit. So, learn the lingo to become a Starbucks pro.
4. Hack the Menu
Starbuck’s employees can make you practically anything your heart desires. There are also ways to make your drink order cheaper. One barista was brave enough to spill the beans! You can create your own $5 iced venti latte for half of that price!
Since you can add as much cold milk as you want from the condiment bar to whatever you’re drinking, you can ask for an ice venti doppio for $1.95, then add milk yourself.
3. Rudeness Gets You Decaf
Here is what one barista wrote on Reddit, “When you think that you are entitled to anything and complain about non-issues, you’re getting decaf, and I’m not apologizing about your minor inconvenience.”
Most Starbuck employees will deny that these food tampering activities go on at their location, but few admit to doing it to their not so polite customers.
2. Clean Ice Machine, Clean Drinks
There are many horror stories of filthy ice machines across fast food outlets. It makes you want to order hot tea in the summer! Not at Starbucks, though. Starbucks employees want you to know they don’t fool around with their ice machines. They diligently clean those machines multiple times per week. They empty the machine and wipe it down when it is slow and continue the grind.
1. Vegan-Friendly Drinks
If you’re dietary needs limit your food and drink options, don’t think that Starbucks is off-limits for you. None of the regular syrups have dairy in them! So all you vegan do not need to worry about that. The only ones with milk are the caramel drizzle and the thicker syrups, such as the white mocha, pumpkin spice and caramel Brulee. The regular mocha is vegan! Plus, they offer a variety of dairy-free milk.
