Did you know that Dakota and Elle Fanning are related to Kate Middleton? Or that Quincy Jones and Rashida Jones are father and daughter? Probably not, right. Well, here are some more celebrities you probably had no idea were related.
10. Brandy, Ray J, and Snoop Dogg
If you follow mainstream culture, then you already know that actors/singers Brandy and Ray J are siblings. But, did you know that they’re related to another superstar? According to MSN, Snoop Dogg confirmed to MTV in 2006 that he is Brandy’s and Ray J’s first cousin. “We never really told the world because we weren’t trippin’ off of that, but that’s my family,” he said.
FUN FACT: Brandy and Snoop Dogg worked together on the 2009 song, “Special.” The song is on Snoop Dogg’s album Malice N’ Wonderland.
9. Shirley MacLaine and Warren Beatty
Believe it or not Shirley MacLaine and Warren Beatty are siblings — and the two are very close. During MacLaine’s acceptance speech for the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award, she thanked Beatty for being the person “she’d known the longest and the person she’d loved the longest on this planet.” And, according to Good Housekeeping, MacLaine told USA Today that she’s very protective of her little brother, who’s three years her junior. We know how difficult the 2017 Oscar’s fiasco was for him, but it was also very difficult for me, she said.
-Originally born Shirley MacLaine Beaty, she dropped the name “Beaty” once she started performing. If you notice, her name is spelled with only one ‘t’. That’s because her brother later changed the spelling of his family’s last name.
-Although Ned Beatty has the same last name, he’s no relation to the two. But, he did joke once when asked by a reporter if he was related to Warren Beatty. I’m his “illegitimate uncle,” he said. Ironically, many people, including mainstream newspapers, actually took him seriously.
8. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip give a whole new meaning to the saying “keeping it in the family.” As it turns out this husband and wife team are actually third cousins. Believe it or not, it’s not uncommon for royals to marry their relatives. In fact, it’s a tradition and is used as a means of strengthening political alliances.
-Husband and wife Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were the great-great grandparents of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. They were also first cousins.
-The Queen has another famous relative. According to a study released by FindMyPast.com, Hilary Duff is a distant relative (18th cousin) of Queen Elizabeth II.
7. Madonna and Hillary Clinton
The “Queen of Pop” is related to another dignitary — former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton. As it turns out the two are 10th cousins. The singer even put on a surprise 20-minute concert in New York’s Washington Square Park for Hillary when she ran for president. The star performed some of her greatest hits and urged the audience to “elect a president that does not discriminate against women, against the LGBT community, against people of color and that does not want to build a wall around our country and separate us from the rest of the world,” The Guardian reported.
6. Al Roker and Lenny Kravitz
You probably already know that music superstar Lenny Kravitz is Zoë Kravitz’s father. But, what you probably didn’t know is that Lenny is also related to TV weatherman and “TODAY Show” anchor Al Roker. Yep, it’s true. The two are distant cousins on Kravitz’s mother’s side. The American film and television actress known for her roles in “Saved by the Bell: The New Class,” “Pretty Little Liars,” and more, is related to Beyoncé (and Solange, too) by marriage. Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, married Bianca’s father, Richard Lawson, who also happens to be a celebrity. He’s appeared in many films and TV shows, including “Poltergeist,” “For Colored Girls,” and “Sister, Sister.”
4. Melissa McCarthy and Jenny McCarthy
Just because two people have the same last name doesn’t mean it’s safe to assume they’re related. But, in this case, you’d be right to make that assumption. Melissa McCarthy and Jenny McCarthy are indeed related. They’re cousins, to be exact. And, it was Jenny who helped her older cousin land her first TV role as a guest on a short-lived sitcom Jenny starred in back in the 90s.
FUN FACT: Jenny shared a childhood photo of the two on Instagram in 2015.
3. Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire
In 2013, Kelly Clarkson married Reba McEntire’s stepson, Brandon Blackstock, making the two country superstars in-laws. Meanwhile, Kelly and Reba teamed up in April 2018 at the Academy of Country Music Awards to perform McEntire’s 1993 hit song “Does He Love You.” When asked about singing with Clarkson, McEntire told iHeartRadio, “when she opens her mouth to sing, it’s just like, ‘What is she gonna do next?’ because she’s got the range. I’m in awe every time she sings… I think I’m her biggest fan!”

So, just how exactly are Barbra Streisand and Josh Brolin related? Well, that’s simple. Streisand has been married to Brolin’s father, actor James Brolin, since 1998. And, last year when Josh and wife Kathryn Boyd were expecting their first child together, no one was more excited than grandmother-to-be Barbra Streisand. “My wife got her a bracelet that said ‘Grandma’ on it and she started crying,” James Brolin told PEOPLE last June. “She is one of those … it’s annoying but in a really great way, [with] emails every day and like, ‘Hey, I thought of this name, what do you think of that? … When can I come over and feel the baby?'”
