Sazae-san, originally a Japanese comic strip illustrated by Machiko Hasegawa and is Japan’s most beloved comic strip, holds the Guinness World Record for longest anime series with over 7000 episodes.

Sazae was more interested in being herself than dressing up in kimono and makeup to attract her future husband in the beginning. Hasegawa was forward-thinking in that, in her words, their clan would embody the image of the modern Japanese family after the end of World War II.

Sazae was a very liberated woman, and a lot of the early plot lines revolved around Sazae bossing around her husband, to the amazement of her neighbors, who believed that a man should be the head of his household rather than the wife. Sazae later became a feminist who was involved in many comical situations, regarding her association with her local women’s group.

Despite the comical nature of the series, the core story revolves around the large family dynamic, and were presented in a lighthearted and easy fashion with focus on comedic gold. Since the episodes are only 6 minutes long. Please do check it out.
