The history of mankind has witnessed some of the most cold-blooded crimes which seem to turn the world upside down and dive it down to the world of insanity. Many of these horrific crimes have inspired Hollywood to recreate their shocking stories in big budget movies. As we watch these movies, one can barely believe someone could actually commit such atrocities. Whether it is their brain-sickness, proclivity or some other odd reason, they don’t hesitate to repeatedly commit the crime.

Here is the list of 10 horrific serial killers that have brutally changed the history of mankind with their murders.

10. Aileen Wuornos

Aileen Wuornos was an American serial killer that was convicted of killing seven men in Florida in between 1989 and 1990. She had claimed that her victims had either raped or tried to rape her while she was working as a prostitute. Her story was covered in a TV movie called Overkill: The Aileen Wuornos Story in 1992 and within two other documentaries: Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer (1993) and Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2003).

She was arrested on January 9, 1991 at The Last Resort, a biker bar in Volusia County. She was executed on October 9, 2002 by lethal injection. She makes it in our list of the top 10 serial killers as the only female serial killer.

9. Carl Eugene Watts

Carl Eugene Watts, also known as Coral was an American serial killer. He started his serial killing career at the age of 20 in 1974. He was suspected for killing more than 80 victims although he was convicted for only 12 murder cases.

He was arrested on May 22, 1982 in Houston and was sentenced to life imprisonment on September 13 2007. He died of prostate cancer after serving life in prison on September 21 2007. Carl Eugene Watts takes 9th place in our list of the 10 most vicious serial killers.

8. Andrei Chikatilo

Andrei Chikatilo is a Russian serial killer also known as the Butcher of Rostov or the Rostov Ripper. He has been convicted on commitment of murder, mutilation and sexual assault. His victim toll is believed to consist of a minimum of 52 women and children. On 22 December 1978, he committed his first crime by murdering a 9-year-old girl, Yelena Zakotnova. Then he repeated the killing during the period of 1978 and 1990.

He was taken to trial on April 14, 1992 and formally sentenced to death on October 15, 1992. Andrei Chikatilo takes 8th place in our list of the top most vicious serial killers in history.

7. Alexander Pichushkin

Also known as The Chessboard Killer and The Bitsa Park Maniac Alexander Pichushkin is a Russian serial killer. He is believed to have killed 49 people in southwest Moscow’s Bitsa Park, but the actual number could possibly exceed 60. He first committed his first crime in 1992. Thereafter he escalated the crime in 2001. He has said that his aim was to kill 64 people, the number of squares on a chessboard. His prime target were homeless elderly people whom he lured by offering them free vodka.

He was arrested on June 17 2005 and charged with 49 murders and 3 attempted murders on October 24, 2007. He is now serving life in prison. Alexander Pichushkin takes 7th place in our list of the most vicious serial killers in the history.

6. Ahmad Suradji

Ahmad Suradji was a serial killer from Indonesia. He had been convicted of killing 42 women and girls within a period of 11 years. His victims comprised of the ages of 11 to 30 years.

He was arrested on on May 2, 1997. In his confession, he told to police that he had a dream in 1988, in which his late father asked him to murder 70 women and drink their saliva so that he could become a mystic healer. He was found guilty on April 27,1998 and sentenced to death. He was executed by firing squad on July 10, 2008. Ahmad Suradji takes 6th place in our list of the most vicious serial killers.

5. Jack the Ripper

Jack the Ripper is widely known as the name given to the unidentified serial killer from London. He was believed to be actively operating in and around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. The victims of his attacks included the women prostitutes from the East End of London. The exact number of the victims are a mystery and are still largely unknown.

Eleven separate murder cases during the period of April, 3 1888 to February, 13 1891 were recorded as Whitechapel. Five of the cases were believed to be doings of Jack the Ripper. These five murder cases are collectively known as the “canonical five”. Jack the ripper takes 5th place in our list of the most vicious serial killers.

4. Luis Garavito

Luis Garavito, also known as “La Bestia” (“The Beast”), is a Colombian rapist and child serial killer. Because of the large number of his victims he was described by the local media as “The world’s worst serial killer”. He confessed of raping, torturing and murdering at least 147 young boys. But as per his drawing of a skeleton on maps in his prison, the number of the victims can actually be more than 300. His victims were comprised of poor street children between the ages of 8 and 16. Investigation of his victim’s corpses showed the signs of prolonged torture.

He was arrested on April 22, 1999. He was charged of killing a total of 172 of which he was found guilty in 139 of the cases. Though he had killed an extremely large number of his victims, he was sentenced to only 40 years of imprisonment. Luis Garavito takes 4th place in our list of the top 10 most vicious serial killers.

3. Peter Kürten

Peter Kürten was a German serial killer also known as The Vampire of Düsseldorf and the Düsseldorf Monster. Hho was convicted for a series of serial murders and sexual assaults during February and November 1929.

He admitted killing 79 people most of which were women and young girls. He has confessed about raping a number of girls and brutally killing them thereafter. He also admitted to drinking blood from the victim’s body. He was taken to trial in April 1931 with the charges of nine murders and seven attempted murder cases and was sentenced to death.

Prior to his execution he was interviewed by Dr. Karl Berg, where Dr. Karl concluded that the sight of blood was integral with his sexual stimulation as evidenced by Kürten’s final words saying: “Tell me—after my head is chopped off, will I still be able to hear, at least for a moment, the sound of my own blood gushing from the stump of my neck? That would be the pleasure to end all pleasures.” Peter Kurten takes 3rd place in our list of the top 10 most vicious serial killers.

2. Tsutomu Miyazaki

Tsutomu Miyazaki, also known as the Otaku Murderer or The little Girl Murderer, was a Japanese serial killer who abducted and murdered four young girl from Saitama and Tokyo prefectures from August 1988 to June 1989. The case reveals that due to his odd activity he was isolated from family members except his grandfather from whom he admitted to receive support. But after the death of his grandfather in May 1988, his depression deepened further and he showed psychological disordered activities.

Between August 1988 and June 1989, he murdered four young girls by abducting them first. He sexually abused their corpses, drank blood and ate body parts from one of these victims. He was arrested by police on July 23, 1989 and sentenced to death on April 14, 1997. Tsutomu Miyazaki takes 2nd place in our list of the top 10 most vicious serial killers.

1. Zodiac killer

Zodiac Killer is the nickname for the anonymous person hailing from northern California that is well known for his serial killings. The case is still unsolved with a number of riddles to solve. He murdered the victims from Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa, and San Francisco between December 1968 and October 1969.

The victims were four men and three women. The suspect sent a series of letters to the press which included four cryptograms of which only one has been completely solved. The California Department of Justice has maintained an open case file for this case. The zodiac serial killer takes 1st place in our list of the top 10 most vicious serial killers in the history.

These killers are absolutely brutal in their nature and have killed without mercy. Their horrific crimes have brought them to this list as some of the worst people to ever have walked this Earth.
