According to the Holy Bible, no one knows when the world will come to an end, but there are signs to let us know when it’s getting close. Here are a few of those signs.
10. The Deterioration of People’s Attitudes
According to Christian belief, in the last days people will become boastful, proud, ungrateful, unholy, treacherous, greedy, unforgiving, lovers of themselves, have no self control, and many other things too numerous to mention here. People will also be lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. In other words, people will dedicate more of their time to TV, sports, movies, games, shopping, socializing and the like, and less of their time to God and studying the word of God. This not only includes people on the outside of the church, but it includes professing Christians as well.
9. Disobedient Kids
You may be saying to yourself, “This isn’t anything new. Kids have always been disobedient.” But, if you’ve ever sat down and listened to a bunch of elders, you can hear them all saying the same thing over and over again about how kids are different today than when they were coming along. Kids back then didn’t sass their parents, or any adults for that matter. They did what they were told, and if they didn’t they got a good spanking. But, today you can see kids yelling and/or cursing at their parents, doing what they want to do instead of doing as they’re instructed, and even taking their parents’ lives.
8. Arctic Melting
According to National Geographic, the Arctic is melting fast. This area is crucial to a healthy world climate, but with the ice melting at such an alarming rate, we could be headed for catastrophe — especially if it reaches levels that are too low. Frighteningly enough, it seems like were headed in that direction. According to List25.com, scientists have been using satellites to monitor arctic ice for decades now, and have seen a five-fold rate of ice loss since 1990. The thickness of the ice has decreased, too, by 40 percent since 1960. What’s even more frightening is that it could all be completely gone by the year 2040.
7. Rising Persecution of Christians
As the end of the world approaches, we will see a rise in the persecution of Christians. Matthew 24:9 tells us that Christians will be delivered up to be afflicted and killed, and they will be hated by all nations. According to an article published by the BBC, Christian persecution is at near genocide levels. A report ordered by Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt shows that an estimated one in three people suffer from religious persecution, and Christians were the most persecuted religious group of all. In fact, Christianity is being wiped out from parts of the Middle East. According to the report, Christians in Palestine represent less than 1.5 percent of the population, and the number of Christians in Iraq has fallen from 1.5 million before 2003 to less than 120,000. “Evidence shows not only the geographic spread of anti-Christian persecution, but also its increasing severity,” the Bishop of Truro the Right Reverend Philip Mounstephen wrote, according to the BBC.
6. The Revealing of the Antichrist
According to Christian belief, the Antichrist will be revealed in the last days. The New Testament lets us know that the Antichrist is already here, but he hasn’t been revealed to us yet. This will happen as the end of the world approaches. But, there are clues to look out for so that we know who it is. The first clue is that the Antichrist will be against Christ, hence the term “anti-Christ.” Another clue is that he’ll be an intellectual, and as such, a genius when it comes to commerce, politics, war, and speech. As a result, he will also be very powerful. A third clue is that he will mimic Christ, despite being against him. This is because he wants to fool others. Lastly, it is believed that the Antichrist will rise up from a group of kingdoms that will constitute a revived Roman Empire.
5. Doomsday Prepping Has Been on the Rise
According to an article published by BUSINESS INSIDER, Doomsday preppers have been on the rise in the United States in recent decades, although the amount of preppers has decreased slightly since Trump took office. So, what exactly is a doomsday prepper? They are people who stockpile supplies like ready-to-eat food rations, freeze dried meals, toilet paper and gear such as hazmat suits in the event of a society-upending disaster, be it natural, manmade, financial, political, environmental, or nuclear. According to BUSINESS INSIDER, doomsday preppers have different reasons for stockpiling such supplies. For example, some of them are worried about food and water shortages following natural disasters, while others want to be prepared for war, pandemic disease, and the like.
4. Doomsday Clock
Okay, so no one really knows for sure when the catastrophic global events leading up to the end of the world are going to occur, but checking this clock will surely put fear into your heart. The Doomsday Clock was created in 1947 by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists to convey threats to humanity and the planet. The clocks counts down to midnight (the apocalypse), and the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board, in consultation with its Board of Sponsors, decides to move (or not move) the minute hand each year. It’s currently set to two minutes to midnight — the closest it’s ever been to apocalypse. It has been set to this time since 2018.
3. Earthquakes in Strange Places
Matthew 24:7 and Luke 21:11 tells us that one of the signs to look for when the end of the world is near is earthquakes in strange places. In fact, just last year strange earthquake waves rippled around the world, and no one knew why. “The seismic waves began roughly 15 miles off the shores of Mayotte, a French island sandwiched between Africa and the northern tip of Madagascar. The waves buzzed across Africa, ringing sensors in Zambia, Kenya, and Ethiopia. They traversed vast oceans, humming across Chile, New Zealand, Canada, and even Hawaii nearly 11,000 miles away. These waves didn’t just zip by; they rang for more than 20 minutes,” National Geographic wrote in an article published on its website.
While no one felt the waves, one person did notice an odd signal on U.S. Geological Survey’s real-time seismogram displays. “I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it,” Göran Ekström, a seismologist at Columbia University who specializes in unusual earthquakes, told National Geographic.
2. People Start Disappearing
If you’ve ever seen the movie Left Behind, then you know how frightening it would be to see people just start disappearing. This occurrence, known as the rapture, hasn’t happened yet, but according to the bible, it will occur something like this:
“Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.” — Matt. 24: 40-41
” I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.” — Luke 17:34-36
1. The Opening of the Seven Seals
The Seven Seals are mentioned in the Book of Revelation and are as follows:
Seal 1: The Conqueror
“And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.” — Rev. 6:1-2
Seal 2: War
“And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. And there went out another horse that was red, and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.” — Rev. 6:3-4
Seal 3: Famine
“And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.” — Rev. 6:5-6
Seal 4: Pestilence
“And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.” — Rev. 6:7-8
Seal 5: The Great Tribulation
“And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.” — Rev. 6:9-11
Seal 6: Heavenly Signs
“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. — Rev. 6:12-14
Seal 7: The Seven Trumpets
“And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets. And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand. And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake. And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.” — Rev. 8:1-6
